Health care reform is a vexing challenge to all governments today. Despite the difficulties of building a consensus for reform, change is inevitable: inaction is not an option. The real question is how to provide high quality care to the patient at an affordable cost?
Recent research comparing health system performance across countries sheds new light on this question. Joshi Venugopal, a Novartis executive shares this research at a TEDX event in Panama. The research reveals two counter intuitive insights. First, it shows that better quality care costs less, not more. Second it shows, with the right incentives, you can be very effective in treating diseases – even in very expensive healthcare systems.
